Prevention is better than cure! The Safe browsing environment of Caretaker makes your computer really immune against internet dangers. It offers the following functionalities:
By starting up Internet Explorer with LUA (Least User Access), dangerous webpages cannot misuse unpatched and unknown security leaks in the browser in order to disrupt Windows.
Thanks to this principle browsers from Linux and Mac OS X are no interesting targets for such attacks. Microsoft introduces this principle in Windows Vista, but Caretaker makes LUA possible for Windows 2000, XP en 2003, without having to understand it. It is ideal for private users and system administrators, who always have to or wish to work with 'administrator' or 'power user' rights.
It checks every webpage for links to dangerous sites, files or unmatching contents (porn). These kind of sites will be clearly marked in the browser.
In contrast to another popular advice-giving system, Caretaker does not only give advice in search engines, but also regarding all other webpages (meaning also blogs, forums, MySpace, to name but a few). The advice given is put together from the experience Caretaker gains from its users. If Caretaker finds a dangerous or unmatching website, which is not in the advice-giving system yet, then this one will be automatically added. Due to this, other users will be informed, before they will try to visit that page.
Online access to your bank account or peronal details. There are enough organisations and authorities where access is possible with simple static information, like a user name and a password (DigiD, Postbank, PayPal, eBay, etc.). It is therefore interesting for crooks to mislead users, in order to get their access information from them.
The most common method is to fool the user by setting up a fake webpage, which is identical to the one the user knows, and where he or she unsuspectingly fills in his or her access details. This process is called phishing and almost all programs trying to prevent this from happening depend on block lists with web addresses from these fake pages. These lists are generated by people and robots, which accidentally discover such a fake webpage, and that's why they are never really current or complete.
Caretaker also uses such web addresses, but also detects new phishing-sites by visually analysing websites and comparing them to those of well known authorities. This innovative functionality makes it possible for Caretaker to unmask automatically and directly the latest phishing sites, even if they have not been detected any earlier. And because phishing-sites are also taken up in linking advice, users can warn one other against online fraud!
Not only websites from banks, public authorities and well known online auctions are taken up in our visual detection system. In principle, any website using personal data can have its profile taken up into Caretaker by Surfright for free.
Do you or your children determine what the latter are allowed to do on a computer?
If you use Parental Control, then you control what they are allowed to do and how long they can actually work on the computer.
Latest technological improvements make it possible to screen websites for human nudity, in order to make sure that employees and young computer users are not confronted with it.
