Unsafe DNS server address detected

Caretaker uses your local DNS settings to communicate with public black lists (to check domain names, IP and web adresses). Legitimate email messages could end up being classified as spam (misclassified) when your computer is (deliberately) using a poisoned DNS server. Note that online banking or e-commerce is now unsafe. The poisoned settings are most likely made by a trojan which could still be on your PC. Caretaker Antispam will display the following warning:



Follow these steps to check your computer and repair your settings:

• Download and start Prevx CSI to check you PC for malware (viruses, trojans, spyware, worms, etc.)
  
  
  
  When you are infected, buy a Prevx CSI license here to remove the threats.
  
  Alternative: download the free Hitman Pro to scan your PC and remove the threats.
  


• Check your DNS settings an change them back to safe values:
  
  

  Windows XP

  1. Open Network Connections (click on Start / Settings / Network Connections)
  2. Right click on the device that has connection with the Internet (e.g. Local Area Connection) and select Properties
  3. Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties
     
     
     
     
     1. When the upper setting is Obtain an IP address automatically, change the bottom setting to Obtain DNS server address automatically.
     
     
     2. If you are using a fixed IP address, change the Preferred DNS server to the IP address of your local DNS server (e.g. your router; usually the same IP address as defined at Default gateway).
        
        You could also enter the OpenDNS servers:
        

        Provider	Preferred DNS	Alternate DNS
        OpenDNS	208.67.222.222	208.67.220.220

        
        Or enter the DNS server addresses of your Internet provider.
        
     
     
  4. Click OK to apply the settings.
